Appearance: Gero is a man of Asian heritage, appearing to be in his early-twenties. He has short light brown hair. He has gray eyes, with a tired but calm look. His face always looks uninterested, but he keeps many things in his mind. He wears a white long sleeved shirt under his regular Survey Corps uniform accompanied by a grey scarf. Additionally he likes wearing his heavy, green, hip-length hooded cloak with the Wings of Freedom on the back. He also likes making use of the hood, even when he is not on a mission.
During his days in the Underground City, Gero grew to be a strict and serious person. Though he still placed a great trust in his friends, something he would later do with his subordinates in the Survey Corps. His obedience is strictly limited to individuals he respects, and he has no problem showing open disdain for authority from anyone outside of this circle. He openly despises the Military Police, believing they shouldn’t have authority because they don’t actively battle the Titans. Despite his obedience to his superiors in the Survey Corps, Gero operates rather independently. Many of his Titan kills are solo, accomplished with little direct cooperation from other soldiers (due to him usually assigning them to hunt other Titans in the vicinity). Although he rarely shows it, Gero has a strong sense of morality and empathy. One of his most defining characteristics is the great value he places on preserving human life. Because of their hazardous profession and his personal values, he cares greatly for his subordinates’ welfare. Though Gero is aware that his battle skill is in a different league from his peers, he is not particularly arrogant about it. Few will argue with his claims that only he can handle certain difficult tasks, because he has proven his ability to accomplish them. This became even more apparent after he found out that he could use the Power of the Titans.
History: Gero began his life in a town of the outer most wall, Wall Maria. His father was a Scout, who had been killed during an expedition before Gero was born. As for his mother; she was a commoner housewife with a mysterious background who died during his birth. That’s why Gero was taken in by his grandfather, who taught him how to fight and survive. They lived together within Wall Sheena until he was 8, which was when the old man died due to his old age, forcing Gero to move on to the Underground. He lived on his own, battling thugs and making a living. Though he was well aware that he couldn’t keep living like that so he eventually decided to join the military when he was 12. At the end of his three year long training, Gero joined the Scouting Legion. Proving his worth in a short time, Gero quickly rose through the ranks and became a Squad Captain when he was 22.

Special Abilities: Hybrid Physiology: Gero’s body is very special and unique. His father is from the Ackermann family of the Asian Clan whereas his mother is a distant royal descendent of the old Eldian Empire. This enables him to possess different powers. His Asian heritage allows him to be immune to any mental manipulation whereas his Eldian heritage allows him to use the Power of the Titans. Additionally, having royal blood running through his veins thanks to his maternal side, Gero could potentially utilize the Founding Titan’s powers to their fullest extent, if he possessed it.
Awakened Power: The Ackermanns have an “awakened power” displayed by some members of the family, a byproduct of Titan science. Gero once described it as “knowing exactly what needs to be done”, and it lets the Ackermanns exhibit physical abilities far above the average human. The Ackermanns with this power are extremely powerful fighters: like Gero being regarded as the best soldier of his generation and as valuable as a hundred average soldiers. This power is not automatically active, however, and has to be triggered by experiences in the Ackermann’s life; it appears to be permanent afterward. Gero was a normal boy until the age of 9, when he saw two thugs strangling a boy like him. That was when he awakened his dormant power and was able to kill the thugs.
Power of the Titans: Gero has the ability to transform into the Attack Titan. In this form, he is a 15 meter tall Titan, with shoulder-length brown hair and features that are reminiscent of his human form. There are blade like protrusions around his shoulders and elbows. Unlike most other Titans, his Titan form is considerably more muscular and defined; making him much stronger than even similar-sized Titans while his intelligence and training, allow him to out-maneuver and dispatch entire groups of Titans with ease. Gero, like all others with the power of the Titans, must physically harm himself (or suffer some kind of injury) in order to transform into his Titan form.
- Attack Mode: Gero’s Titan form has the unique ability to speed up the blood flow, forcing more blood through his blood vessels, in order to provide his cells with more oxygen and nutrients. This makes him much faster and more powerful, but as a downside uses more energy, which as a result drains his stamina faster than usual. With prolonged use, the increase in his metabolism causes him to faint after emerging from his Titan. When this form is active, Gero’s Titan releases steam from its body and its eyes take a crimson color, whereas different parts of its skin slightly crack and start to glow. Gero believes that while this mode is active, the offensive capabilities of his Titan are unmatched.
- Crystallization: Gero has the ability to harden parts of his skin at will, as well as create a web of pillars that appear to originate from his Titan body. Gero employs this ability in various situations for various effects. The armor is hard enough for Gero to effectively defend himself against any attacks, even those coming from other Titans. He also uses this ability for destructive attacks by hardening his fists or legs. The constructs, as well as Gero’s Titan, also retain their durability and hardened state even after he has been separated from his Titan body.
- Enhanced Mobility and Endurance: In his Titan form, Gero has high mobility and endurance, unlike most human-controlled Titans, who are less fast than him and who tire to the point of collapsing. He is able to run on long distances while fighting against many Titans. In battle, even after receiving massive amounts of damage, he can carry on fighting, despite the handicaps that he suffers. Over the years, Gero displayed exceptional improvement in his durability. He can transform into a Titan four times in one battle.
- Enhanced Strength: As a result of Gero’s Titan form being much more muscular than other Titans, he is much stronger in terms of physical strength. During his first transformation, Gero was able to decapitate a 15m Titan with a single punch and kill a 7m Titan with little effort. With enough force, Gero was able to throw the abnormal into another Titan hard enough to knock them both into a building.
- Regeneration: In his Titan form, Gero is capable of healing any injuries and even regenerating any parts of his body that were possibly lost in a battle. However, he takes this ability to a new level, being able to focus this ability on certain parts of his body, healing the chosen injuries at a much faster pace as opposed to the automatic, simultaneous regeneration of all the damaged parts.
- Specialized Hardening: After absorbing the Jaw Titan, Gero gained incredible biting and crushing strength in its jaws and nails which can be used with devastating efficiency against both Titans and man-made structures. When he activates them, his claws are strong enough to cause severe damage to armored opponents such as turrets and even the crystal shell created by the Titans. The force of the jaw is shown to be strong enough to chew through the hardened Titan armor as well as the aforementioned crystal shell.
- Speed:After absorbing the Jaw Titan, Gero can now demonstrate significant amounts of speed and agility in his Titan form. He can even move fast enough to catch even one of the Nine Titans off guard.
