Attire: Raizen wears a white mandarin collar kung fu majia that fits his torso tightly, a black sash, and hakama, black tabi and white zouri. His outfit is accented by two belts loosely fastened around his neck, as well as numerous chains on his torso. He also wears a white haori, chain earrings, and a pair of black and white fingerless gloves bearing the emblem of the Kumori family 「曇」.

Child Prodigy: Perhaps the most astonishing trait of Raizen is his intellect and natural talent. He is the most gifted prodigy the Soul Society has had since the opening of the Shinigami Academy, entering on his first try despite his young age, graduating from the academy in only half a year with the highest written and performance scores in each of his classes, joining the Gotei 13 shortly afterwards, and then becoming the first Shinigami to ever reach the rank of Vice-Captain immediately after graduating the academy. During his time in the academy, Raizen achieved Shikai after first making contact with his Zanpakutou, contributing to his exceptionally fast graduation.
Genius Intellect: Arguably, the most fearsome trait of Raizen is his tremendous intellect. He is well-versed in the history and proceedings of the world and is privy to knowledge unknown to many, such as secret methods. He easily grasps the concepts of subjects completely new to him and masters them quickly. Even in the most complex and dangerous of situations Raizen can rely on his calculating intellect to figure out the best course of action. His assessment of a situation is swift, ad-hoc and accurate, allowing him to deduce the nature of other people’s abilities and countering them, often only requiring a few instances of observation.
Master Tactician: He has shown himself to be a masterful and flexible tactician, capable of adjusting seamlessly to any given combat situation, if not planning out events well in advance. He is generally aware of everything in his presence, and is also able to see through most deceptions. He understands the strengths, weaknesses and mannerisms of his enemies, and creates strategies to achieve victory; this includes preparing traps or leading his enemies along complex battle plans so he can even deal with enemies stronger than himself. Like this Raizen can prepare victory many steps in advance and even incorporate his enemies and their plans into his grand scheme. Regardless of his own powers or those of others, Raizen always remains a tactically cautious.
Immense Spiritual Power: Raizen possesses an immense amount of Reiryoku. It is intense enough to nullify the actions of those possessing an average amount or less as it were a trivial matter to him. When he exerts his Reiatsu it can cause a shockwave strong enough to push back weaker individuals. His Reiatsu fueled attacks are exceptionally overwhelming even to opponents of Vice-Captain level. He demonstrates great reserves of energy, capable of delivering multiple high level, high Reiryoku consuming techniques before tiring. His Spiritual Power was as strong as a Captain's even before he became a Shinigami. As a child, Raizen could see his Zanpakutou Spirit, Mugen, materialized in the outside world, and he thought her to be his imaginary friend.
Kidō Master: Raizen knows every spell in the books, and those which aren't. Kidō holds no secrets to him and he can masterfully cast every spell using only a name to do so. Up to #59 he can also make the spells appear from thin air, all the while still retaining great potential. He can manipulate Kidō energy in such a way that powerful attacks are stopped on his body without there seemingly being a cause which stopped them, or instantly produce tremendous aimed explosions. The speed by which he can string up spells makes one wonder if it weren't two or three masters, who were hiding somewhere, doing most of the work.
Jūgeki Byakurai (Kaizō Kidō) (重撃白雷 (改造鬼道), Heavy-Strike Pale Lightning (Modified Kidō)) is a Kidō spell created by Raizen during his time as Vice-Captain of the 10th Division. It is a modified version of Hadō #4. Byakurai. Unlike its unmodified counterpart, this spell takes the appearance of a red beam powerful enough to pierce through a durable foe from a considerable distance.
Hohō Expert: Raizen excels in Shunpo. Already quite well versed in its various techniques, he is proficient enough to use special techniques to keep up with and even surprise high-level opponents. He can even keep up with those of master level for a short amount of time. He is also very quick at close-range, being able to perceive and dodge swift sneak attacks and come out unscathed.
Zanjutsu Expert: While not as proficient in swordsmanship as some masters, Raizen is skilled enough to hold his own in a fight. He has shown to be very crafty with his Zanpakutō as his skills are great enough to regularly fight opponents who released their Zanpakutō while his remains sealed, only relying on his own Zanpakutō's released form as a last resort. He has shown himself to be capable fighter that is on par with lieutenant-level fighters.
Hakuda Expert: Raizen has proven himself to be very dangerous while bare-handed. He can easily catch an opponent's attack with a single hand, perform powerful kicks, and easily subdue opponents with throws and take-downs. In battle, he has shown himself to be tremendously agile and is able to attack from various angles with great dexterity. He can take on most armed opponents and those many times his size easily.
