    Attire: Generally speaking Benihime is seen wearing bandages around her upper body with a pair of men's hakama which have a flame like motif. If she wears anything on her feet it is usually more bandages and the same could be said of her hands. In general she has a bit of a wild appearance. As a Shinigami, she wears only the Hakama of her Shihakusho, substituting the top, shoes and any arm gear for the bandages she seems to be so fond of wearing.

    • Benihime enjoys snack foods (particularly sweets), and will often be found somewhere consuming them.

    • She is uncommonly intelligent and because of this has been known to be manipulative.
    • She keeps many secrets from other people, and often lies by omission or even outright if the situation calls for it.
    • During the time period in which she was a vigilante within the Rukongai those who wronged her called her Ekibyougami (Angel of Death). A reference to the contrast between her fighting ability and attractiveness.


    Powers and Abilities

    Child Prodigy: Perhaps the most astonishing trait of Benihime is her intellect and natural talent. Before she even entered the Academy she was shown to be a genius with a cold streak able to quickly understand all of the material she was taught even through mere observation. She was shown to be a talented fighter with a shrewd streak even as a child, knowing how to completely break down another individual in the quickest manner possible, often sacrificing the safety of others temporarily to meet her own goals. She's considered to be one of the most gifted individuals in the Soul Society, she is easily placed among the top five candidates who has ever entered the Shinigami Academy since its inception. Having entered the Academy on her first try and graduating within a year of that entry, it is known that her prowess was strong. She as even named Valectorian of her class, without ever revealing her attained Shikai, showing more than a basic understanding of all other forms of Shinigami Combat. All of this is made even more astonishing knowing that the young girl wasn't putting forth more effort than she needed to in order to maintain her spot. Her ability to maintain a high level of output without the extreme effort needed by most of her classmates made the girl an astounding prospect. She easily found herself 5th seat among the 12th Division within a week of graduation (turning down an opportunity to be 3rd seat for her own reasons) and became the head of one SRDI's departments within a week of that.

    Genius Intellect: Arguably, the most fearsome trait of Benihime is her tremendous intellect. She is well-versed in the history and proceedings of the world and is privy to knowledge unknown to many, such as secret methods. She easily grasps the concepts of subjects completely new to her and masters them quickly. Even in the most complex and dangerous of situations Benihime can rely on her calculating intellect to figure out the best course of action. Her assessment of a situation is swift, ad-hoc and accurate, allowing her to deduce the nature of other people’s abilities and countering them, often only requiring a few instances of observation. Her genius is defined by the ability to remember seemingly unrelated bits of information and piece them together into a clear picture or plan. Of course, doing so means she often has things floating around in her head which she doesn't need in regular situations. To keep these things, she deletes instead unnecessary information, like names. When in deep thought and drawing on multiple held bits of information, Benihime is prone to holding her hands in a cupped position as it helps her concentrate.

    Ability Intuition: Benihime has the special brand of genius which allows her to know and understand abilities used before her. Anything which she is capable of physically, she is able to understand intricately, copy and adapt it for her own use. The more often she sees something, the more likely she'll be able to replicate it, making repetitive opponents a negative for her. If she has nothing more to learn from them, they become a nuisance to her. This is true, even if she hasn't learned something directly from combat situations. That being said, the more advanced a persons skills set while she is facing them, the more likely she is to develop in the face of this challenge. In this way, she is much like a shadow herself, becoming stronger in the light of stronger challenges. This can be understood as the reason that she is keen to face only people that she can learn from, which can sometimes appear as an elitist attitude, but is not, it is simply the idea that she shouldn't fight someone and get nothing out of it.

    Keen Scientist: Benihime is a gifted inventor and scientist, having created a number of clever devices and techniques to aid her in battle or otherwise. Her intellect in this field is evident, as she is able to create and invent devices on her own and further sophisticated research. She is an asset to any development bureau as her work can help accomplish the developmental goals. She knows chemistry, being able to work with chemical formulas and combined them to make new ones. She can also repair advanced machines, sometimes needing to improvise on materials. Her natural intellect allows her to study various different kinds of souls and invent things which can be manipulated for various applications to many different soul types.

    • Reiatsu-Concealing Cloak: One of Benihime's first inventions, for helping with her field research was to create a cloak which conceals her spiritual pressure from others around her. This was to aid in hiding from things that were more powerful than her, and those with enhanced senses. She later made special bandages out of the same material in order to constantly use such a thing, and keep others from having an accurate sense of her Reiatsu level unless she decided to exert said energy. This was something she was inspired into making by an interaction with Kumori Raizen during the first Tournament of Power.

    • Capsule Technology: Her most useful creation to date, Benihime created in her laboratory a way to store an item within a small capsule which can be deployed back to its original size regardless of the mass of the object originally created. She uses this to carry around laboratory equipment, temporary housing, even special gigai, samples of Reishi and Reiatsu, and different pieces of clothing.

    • Body-Part Regeneration Serum: After studying the Reiatsu output of a Hollow which had the ability to regenerate lost limbs, Benihime created an alternate version of that spiritual energy which can be used by Shinigami to regrow body parts previously lost to them. When injected directly into the injury it will cause the regrowth of the limb in a speed proportionate to the amount of Reiryoku the person possesses. Those with a larger amount will regrow limbs faster than those with a smaller amount. The only functional drawback to this measure is that in order for it to work the tissue can't have healed shut yet, meaning if someone lost a limb a long time prior to this invention and wanted to regrow it, they'd have to willing have more of the tissue amputated so that the wound was fresh.

    • Arms Mode (アームズモード, Āmuzu Mōdo): A prototype weapon system that Genos possesses. When inactive it takes the form of a suitcase. To activate it, Genos pushes a button on the handle and then throws it in front of him. The suitcase splits down the middle and separates, each half then opening revealing the "arms" inside with the container then flipping back to become the attaching mechanism. Genos then throws his arms into the new "arms" and they attach to him causing quite a bit of electrical discharge. When the "arms" fully attach, parts run up his shoulders and neck and his face is framed by pieces of metal. The new arms are much thicker and are all black, with the blaster on his palm having changed shape as well. While using these arms, Genos was shown to be able to move his core to the shoulder of his right arm, directing all of his power into a massive blast. This is a weapon created by Benihime for the Cyborg 3rd Seat to use as his Bankai equivalent.


    Master Tactician: she has shown himself to be a masterful and flexible tactician, capable of adjusting seamlessly to any given combat situation, if not planning out events well in advance. She understands the strengths, weaknesses and mannerisms of her enemies, and creates strategies to achieve victory; this includes preparing traps or leading her enemies along complex battle plans so she can even deal with enemies stronger than herself. Like this Benihime can prepare victory many steps in advance and even incorporate her enemies and their plans into her grand scheme. Regardless of her own powers or those of others, Benihime always remains a tactically cautious.

    Expert Manipulator: Benihime has been known to manipulate people and situations to suit her liking. In battle this would be called tactics, but she does this socially simply to get what she wants, or for her own amusement. She can easily tell a lot about people from a single session of observation, and uses that information to poke and prod at them to gain the reactions she finds most favorable for herself. Her actions include simple things, like using her knowledge of people to creation situations she might enjoy observing, mentioning things in a casual way which she knows will cause a ripple of events, and even doing things she knows will cause suspicion in order to get herself put into a situation she'd rather be in. She doesn't seem to have any malicious intentions when doing these things, and they rarely go astray while she's acting this way. This is a skill she's learned and enhanced over time, as obvious manipulations have led to people being exceedingly suspicious of her intentions, like Kisaragi Saya when she first started teaching the girl the Shinigami Arts.

    Enhanced Senses: not only can Benihime utilize the normal Reiatsu sensing technique of a Shinigami, she is also in possession of superior other senses. Her sight, hearing, sense of smell and even her feel for Reiatsu are very acute and sharp; able to discern smaller sources and nuances where others could not. She seems to be perfectly capable of telling the amount of Reiatsu one is expelling versus the amount of Reiryoku they actually possess. She was able to figure out that Kumori Raizen went about suppressing the base amount of Reiryoku he had to work with against his opponent by directly observing it once, and even used it as the basis of some research into spiritual studies.

    Great Spiritual Power: Benihime possesses a great amount of spiritual power, enough that would put her in the same tier as some Captains. She's used this power to some effect to bolster her defenses, allowing her to be a first hand witness to fights between Captains of Immense Power without buckling. As seen when she was present for Raizen's massive use of Kurohitsugi without falling to the gravity of the spell, which crushed two people who would have been considered her peers. On the more active side, she's been seen overpowering Hollows and creatures of massive power while barely lifting a finger to fight them. Her Reiatsu when exerted is a dark crimson color which borders just the colorful side of black. When uncontrolled the weight of her Reiatsu can feel stifling and is often described as encroaching darkness.


    Hohō Expert: Benihime excels in Shunpo. Already quite well versed in its various techniques, she is proficient enough to use special techniques to keep up with and even surprise high-level opponents. She can even keep up with those of master level for a short amount of time. She is also very quick at close-range, being able to perceive and dodge swift sneak attacks and come out unscathed.

    Zanjutsu Expert: while not as proficient in swordsmanship as some masters, Benihime is skilled enough to hold her own in a fight. She has shown to be very crafty with her Zanpakutō as her skills are great enough to regularly fight opponents who released their Zanpakutō while hers remains sealed, only relying on her own Zanpakutō's released form as a last resort. She has shown herself to be capable fighter that is on par with lieutenant-level fighters.

    Hakuda Expert: Benihime has proven herself to be very dangerous while barehanded. She can easily catch an opponent's attack with a single hand, perform powerful kicks, and easily subdue opponents with throws and take-downs. In battle, she has shown herself to be tremendously agile and is able to attack from various angles with great dexterity. She can take on most armed opponents and those many times her size easily.

    Kidō Expert: Benihime excels at Kidō, being able to cast powerful spells up to #79, while not requiring a full incantation up to #63. She can use multiple spells in conjunction with each other, creating a unique way in which to attack and incapacitate her opponents. In this way, she can make common spells all her own. She can use a single Kidō technique on two separate targets at once. She can use high-level Kidō in rapid succession without incantations and still retain considerable control and power. She has great skill in using various spells in unique combination, even using multiple spells at the same time. However, she requires incantations when using high-level spells simultaneously.

    Zanpakutō

    Yakouboku (夜香木, Queen of the Night) seems to have a blade shorter than standard length with a straighter a curve. Its wrap and hilt are both black in color and the hilt has silver decorations running between its wrap. The most notable thing about the sealed form of Benihime's Zanpakuto, is its purely ebony blade, which causes it to look as if it is devoid of life. The blade itself seems to absorb the light around it, causing the weapon to give off a feeling of dread. When asked to describe the feeling, it is likened to the tightened at the pit of the stomach that one feels when plunged into sudden darkness with no sign of light or direction.

    Yakouboku the Zanpakuto spirit has a rather strange appearance. When seen by Benihime, she is a tall and slender young woman with pale grey skin and thigh length white hair. She wears stitched together black garments including a half mask which covers her upper face and forehead leaving her to appear with glowing red eyes and a single fang in her rather sinister smile. Her tattered and stitched together clothing includes a skull shaped white mark over her right breast and various chains and appearing all over her body around her wrists and ankles as well as other places. Her right leg seems to be one of the dark creatures with the stitched mouth where her knee should be and glowing red eyes over her thigh. The final and most stunning thing about Yakouboku is the large pair of wings she possesses which seem to be in tatters but that is strange considering she uses them to fly. They allow light to show through and create a rather grim appearance for a surprisingly well-mannered Zanpakuto Spirit.

    Shikai: Its release command is: Tenchikaimei (天地晦冥, All is plunged into darkness). In Shikai form, Yakouboku takes the form of a large straight blade katana with a thick black and hollow blade which swirls with a dark blackish purple energy.

    • Shikai Special Ability: The special ability of Yakouboku is the creation of thousands of micro-organisms which live symbiotically within the darkness and are able to multiply within the darkness. Because of the relationship they possess with the darkness, Benihime is able to manipulate them and thus manipulate darkness (usually in the form of shadows). The most simple form of this is seen by the creation and infection of shadows which don't belong to Benihime with these organisms giving her access to those shadows. Without the knowledge of her Zanpakuto's actual nature, it is easy to mistake this Zanpakuto for one that simply manipulates darkness, but it is a bit more sinister than that.

      • Benihime has the ability to feed the organisms growing in shadows. By allowing them some of her Reiatsu, or even simply giving them more of the organisms directly from her sword she is able to make it so that infecting a shadow becomes instantaneous instead of something which requires time and growth proportional to the size of the shadow. Such a thing is quite a boon as it allows the young woman to choose when to use Reiatsu and when to conserve it, giving her the ability to battle for longer periods of time or shorter ones depending on what she needs to do.

      • Yamiuchi (闇打ち, Attack under the cover of darkness) - Is an ability which Benihime possess which allows her to cover herself in the micro-organisms in the shadows. In so doing she is able to travel from one shadow to another infected one, giving her the ability to launch a surprise attack or simply travel from one place to another. Movement through shadows doesn't seem to have any negative effects on her person and seems to be just as fast as her use of Shunpo. It is eventually discovered that the movements that Benihime performs while using this ability are simple her using her connection to Apocrypha to close distances instantaneously.

      • Kagemane (影真似, Shadow Imitation) - Benihime uses the her own shadow to push into another persons. When she does so she infects it, causing a state of symbiosis between herself and the other person. While this happens Benihime can control the other persons movements by causing them to mimic her own specifically where her shadow moves they will also move. This isn't because of the shadow themselves, but because of the microorganisms.

      • Kuro Higanbana (黒彼岸花, Black Spider Lily) - A technique which uses Benihime as the center point, spreading her shadow outward from herself to trap multiple targets by controlling the movement of their shadows. Once everyone is captured she can shrink the length of the shadows between herself and them, drawing her targets closer into her darkness and allowing her a variable range at which to attack them. She can also use her sword as the linchpin of this attack, choosing instead to use it as the center point instead of herself, freeing her own movements and adding to her ability to freely attack people caught in her attacks.

      • Hakyuukouka (波及効果, Propagation Effect) - A technique which requires the breaking of Benihime's sword to activate. When her sword is in tact, Yakouboku is actually limiting the amount of power that Benihime has access to, at the breaking of the sword the area floods with micro-organisms far more number than the ones which are normally let out at any given time. Giving the young woman's abilities a major boost, to make up for the lack of a properly functional weapon.

      • Tīzu (Tease) - An ability of Benihime's Zanpakuto which allows her to shape the darkness and organisms she controls into a physical form that she finds to be both pleasing and useful. The form she chose for this happens to be that of a swallowtail butterfly. These creatures seem to be made up purely of darkness and Benihime's expelled Reiatus, fly of their own accord and tend to surround the young woman. They can be used for simple tasks, including but not limited to carrying and distributing her organisms to untainted shadows as well as hardening or shifting themselves to act as a shield. In addition because Benihime understands her connection to Apocrypha she is able to use the Tizu to phase through solid matter by passing them through one dimension and back into this one. The use of this ability initially required concentration from Benihime, but as her use of this technique advances she is able to control a seemingly limitless amount of these small creatures. Her use of this ability is likened to a past use of a similar ability performed by a previous incarnation, and as such was named accordingly by her Zanpakuto.

      • Yami no Tankyūsha (闇の探求者, Seeker of Darkness) - The final attack of her weapon, Benihime stabs her sword into her own shadow, causing it to grow outwards and causing the conglomeration of all of the organisms within a single shadow to make a creature which has a variable form but usually appears to have red eyes an ominous purple glow and purple stitched together mouths. These creatures are part of her Zanpakuto but also part of the shadows of the individual they are attached to, they grow in size proportional to the shadow they are attacked to and can't be shaken from the person they are attached to until they complete their goal. Their main goal seems to be getting large enough to break the bonds on their mouths and swallow up the person they chasing, giving them the ability to bring them into the darkness for their mistress. They have the same degeneration effect that her Zanpakuto generally possesses, which makes them a nightmare to deal with.
