    [Earth-65] New York

New York in Earth-65 is quite similar to its counterpart in Earth-1, however it houses many heroes that are unique to it.

Camila yawned as she sat on the roof of a random skyscraper. She picked at her mask for a bit before pulling down, revealing the lower part of her face. She closed her eyes for a moment and enjoyed the semi quietness of the moment. She knew it was really quiet. Her ears were flooded with people’s voices and car. But, that wasn't at the point. The point was what she couldn’t hear. She couldn’t hear anything ‘bad’ happening. No people being robbed, no evil supervillains taking over the world like always. It was a miracle. Thankfully, it was the weekend. Thankfully, Camila’s parents were out of town. There was a lot for Camila to be thankful for as she sat on the skyscraper. She yawned once more and tapped her finger on her cheek. She needed food. It was past dinner time, around eight pm by now. She thought of what places would be opened and the first thing in her mind was McDonald’s. She smirked to herself and stood up, steadying her stance. She backed up just a bit and ran forward, hopping off the building. When she was about halfway down she shot her webs out, hooking onto things as she swung along. She took the same route as always. She knew the city like the back of her palm, she could go anywhere off muscle memory alone.

She began to slow down as she passed the park. "What the hell is that?" she muttered to herself. Concerned, she landed on a building that was closed to it. She squinted to try and get a better view. Did it seem to be some sort of portal? Maybe a weapon of some sort? She shook her head and sighed. She was annoyed! Of course, she would be. She almost had a free night but no, this city always needed saving. She took off once again, landing in a tree close to where the...thing...was. She planted herself there. Staying out of sight of anything that could be in there. And so, she waited.

Falling down the sky wasn’t a bird or a plane or anything else. Instead, it was a man in a grey costume that concealed his identity while also protecting his body. Such a sight of a man falling from great heights would normally cause a great disturbance in people. However, the citizens of New York in Earth-1564 seemed to be unbothered by this. After all, they all knew who this person in question was: it was the friendly neighborhood vigilante that had served New York for the last six or seven years. He was often called Spider-Man or the Silk. There had even been a great debate on what to call this hero but to him that didn’t matter as long as he got the job done. Zooming in towards the skyscrapers, he suddenly extended his arm and pressed inside his palm with his middle and ring fingers. This released a long string of organic web from his wrists, which attached to one of the buildings in the distance and let him swing.

It had been a regular day so far: Allen had stopped a bank robbery, a stolen helicopter and a gas tanker with busted brakes. He wondered what New York had in store for him next. Swinging through the building and quickly changing his location from one street to another, Allen suddenly experienced a strange feeling. He quickly backflipped from his swing and attached to one of the nearby buildings. His senses were being overloaded; it felt like everything was coming towards him with intent to kill. He didn’t know what caused such a suffocating feeling or why it happened only now, but he could feel it coming closer and closer, his heartbeat becoming more erratic every second.

And at last it happened. A giant portal opened right above him as he set his gaze upon what was inside of it. He thought it was a reflection at first, but the more he examined it, the more he was convinced that it was more than that. If it had been a reflection then Allen would have seen himself in his dark grey costume. That wasn’t the case. It showed New York, alive and in action. And not just one, but two. This meant there were two other New Yorks in existence, hinting to the possibility of more of them existing as well. This was such a profound realization and discovery of course, but Allen couldn’t dwell on it more as he was suddenly pulled inside the portal along with several giant pieces of the buildings around him. The gravitational pull was so great that even if the building he was sticking on had stayed intact, he would not be able to keep his position for long.

Soon, Allen was inside the portal, having somehow managed to dodge all the debris that had also flew inside along with him. And once he was inside, the gravity neutralized the aforementioned effects, bringing the motions of everything that had been sucked in into an immobile state. Allen glanced back at the opening of the portal on his side and tried to make his way out again. But each time the closer he got, the stronger would he be repelled from the age. And ultimately it happened: the portal closed with such a great and unforeseen force, sending shockwaves in every direction. They were so powerful in fact; the last thing Allen saw was his city being ripped apart. Once the portal closed completely, it sent out a singular shockwave. One that was so powerful that it would ravage not only New York but the planet itself.

The resulting explosion pushed Allen back, as he flew towards one of the images of the New Yorks he had seen. Unable to take all of these in, the young man fainted and lost his consciousness. Along with the debris that had entered with him, he exited the portal and fell through the air. Midway through his free fall, his spider senses alerted his body and forced him to regain his consciousness. He quickly released a string of web and swung, avoiding the collateral damage that would soon be caused by the debris that had fallen out of nowhere. He made his way to the top of a nearby building, where he finally stopped and collapsed on the rooftop. In a swift motion he pulled his mask off and lied down, facing the blue sky. “What the fuck just happened?” he said slowly, trying to contemplate the reality.

Something was wrong now, Camila could sense it. She shook her head, even after around four years with these weird powers she had still not gotten used to them. She shook her head, that wasn't important now. She knew there was danger and with danger comes people getting hurt and with people getting hurt comes panic and panic lead to disaster. She took her mask and put it over her face once again before swinging down to the ground and started to direct people away. "Everyone clear out! Leave now," she told them all, waving her hands and shooing them away To most people she could have looked like a villain herself. The citizens of New York didn't know her like that though. Sure, when she first started out they were scared but they came to see her for the hero she was. They quickly did what she said and rushed away. She scanned around for a moment, spotting a few of the slower people. The group of people that were too slow included two elderly, three children, and one university who was sitting on the ground with headphones. She rolled her eyes and swooped down, picking up the three children and bringing them to the crowd of the child who seemed to be with a daycare of some sort. Even if they weren't with the daycare exactly she knew they would get them back to their parents. She then turned her attention to the elderly. She was able to quickly wheel on of them out and picked up the other. When everyone else was safe she turned to the last person, the university student who somehow hadn't been able to see the giant portal above them. Sighing, she shot a web at them and used her other hand to swing herself up. As she swung she sent the student back. Of course, she didn't hurt them but more gave them a reminder to pay attention to their surroundings more.

Once everyone was safe Camila turned her attention back to the portal. She gasped as she saw a limp figure falling down from the sky. She rushed to help him, getting thrown back from a giant shock. She panicked and hurried to help him before she saw something she could never believe. He shot a web and swung to a rooftop. She looked back to the civilians and made sure everything was okay. Thankfully, people had already called 911. She waited for the portal to stop launching debris to the ground before she swung up onto the rooftop. Slowly, she peeked over the edge to see him. He was lying down on the ground and slowly spoke. “What the fuck just happened?” he seemingly said to himself. She prepared to fight him as she hauled herself over the edge and onto the rooftop with him. She assumed he wasn't a bad guy but she wanted to take the safe option.

She eyed him for a bit, getting a bit closer as she did. “Who the fuck are you?” she questioned him, putting on her most intimidating look. “And what are you doing here? What was that thing up in the sky? What is your name?” she asked some more questions. By this point she had made up her mind, he had to be dangerous. He had superpowers and just came out of a portal that dropped debris all over a public place with maybe a hundred people in it. When she made up her mind she glared and tried to pin him onto the ground. She huffed and looked him over for anything that may show her who and what he was.

Camila sighed and frowned. She was supposed to have a night off. She was supposed to be having fun, not doing anything. She was supposed to be eating a McDonald’s burger right now! “You asked what happened! Were you experimenting? Are you from another universe? Are you an alien? How can you shoot webs?” she kept bombarding him with questions over and over again, not giving him the chance to answer. She couldn’t believe this! How could he shoot webs? She specifically remembered killing the spider that gave her the powers. Did it have offspring? Did she not kill it? Did he get turned before her? She glared once again and looked straight in his eyes. She needed answers and she needed them quick.

Allen watched the clouds in the sky, unable to feel anything but empty. He was a drifter now, estranged in a world that was unknown to him. He started breathing rapidly, realizing that everything he knew was now gone. His family, his girlfriend, his friends, his apartment, his job… everything. Nothing remained of his life, as everything that was once in the palm of his hand had now been reduced into smithereens. A tear escaped his left eye as somebody else suddenly made an appearance on the very same rooftop. The young man didn’t bother putting his mask on. At least not yet. There was a sad expression on his face and he was not done mourning yet. Though this stranger kept bombarding him with questions.

Allen couldn’t focus on any of those. For him they were just words that went into one ear and out the other. He couldn’t understand the reasoning behind the constant questioning. Perhaps she was right to do so: given her appearance and her costume that bore the web-like design his own costume had and covered half of her face, Allen could deduce that this girl was his counterpart on this world, in other words the vigilante that had the powers of a spider. He could see the rage in her eyes. Obviously she was angry that civilian lives were endangered all of a sudden. And she was right, though little did she know that he was also a victim here. If anything, he was the biggest victim there could be.

She had pinned him to the ground. For a moment Allen didn’t resist at all. He just looked back at the girl with sad eyes. And afterwards he slowly rotated his right arm. With a sigh, he pressed his middle and ring fingers in the middle of his palm and released a string of web, attaching it to the wall on the other side of the rooftop. Then he quickly pulled, freeing himself from the girl’s hold while also managing to stand up in one singular motion. He didn’t stop moving afterwards; he put his mask back on once again and jumped off from the rooftop.

He shot his web again to one of the buildings and started to swing away from the girl. As he quickly moved above the streets, he couldn’t help but notice how different everything was. That moment his heart started to beat faster and Allen felt weaker; he was hyperventilating. “Karen, read vitals,” he said as he continued swinging. Though he didn’t get any response. “Karen read vitals!” he repeated, this time exclaiming. But the AI of his suit was still not responding. “Don’t leave me too Karen,” he spoke with a wavering tone, not that anybody would be able to hear what he was saying. Eventually he stopped next to a tall building and stuck on its exterior. He needed to find a way to reactivate his suit’s AI.

Camila looked at the guy for a moment before being able to sense what was going on. Her eyes softened and stopped asking questions. He wouldn't answer them anyway. She felt like she could almost guess what had happened, even though she knew nothing. His eyes almost said it all. He looked like he had just lost something important to him. There were many possibilities of what it could have been. She guesses that the big weird thing in the sky had to be a portal or something. He also had spider powers and had a suit, he was not from this world.

She watched with a sad look as he put on his mask and made his way to leave. Like she would actually let him do that. He was just through a traumatic experience and had powers, who knew what things he could do. She waited for a moment before following after her, being as quiet as possible. She assumed that he would sense her so she still kept her distance to not frighten him. She slowly swung behind him, she didn't even need to look at where she was going as she already knew the city like the back of her hand. She wondered what people would be thinking as they saw a new mysterious person with powers that seemed identical to her own. She needed to get this guy under wraps and controlled.

Camila watched, confused, as he stopped. She listened to him talking for a moment. He was asking someone to read his vitals? She heard him talking to someone, named Karen apparently. No one was there though. She looked at him and realized it was probably a type of AI. She took this moment to swing towards him and used a web to attempt to stick his hand to a wall on the building. "Look, dude. I know you probably are hurting. You've been through something but you're dangerous. I don't need someone with superhuman powers wreaking havoc on my city," she tried to reason with him and explain herself.

She sighed and tilted her head slightly at the boy. She looked him over a bit, trying to examine him. She gave him a sad smile and shook her head. "I don't know how you are feeling and I won't pretend I do." She paused for a moment and thought of her words. "I just want you to know that I want to help in any way I can. I hope you are able to fix whatever happened or at least get to terms with it."
